SleepOver

SleepOver?
Wake-on-LAN, and I’m saying this to make sure that everyone is on board, is a computer industry standard used to remotely power-on or wake a computer. This is achieved by sending a network message (called “magic packet”) over the network to the targeted computer. So to make things short, it a method of remotely waking up a computer.
With the introduction out of the way, we can now focus on the functionality the SleepOver app has to offer, safe in the knowledge that everyone is on board and understands what’s going on here. This Percula Software-developed app is a Wake-on-LAN app. What it does is it allows you to use your iOS-powered mobile device to wake a computer on your local network. The magic packet mentioned above is sent from your iOS mobile device to a computer on your network, thus waking it up.
The app can also wake a computer over the internet. To get Wake-on-Internet to work you must make sure the magic packet can reach the target computer. This means configuring the router to allow incoming UDP packets on a chosen port to be broadcast over the local network. This is something that not all routers support, so make sure to check before you get the SleepOver app. On the upside, most computer support Wake-on-LAN, so if you need to wake a computer on your local network, you shouldn’t have any problems.
Please note that for the Wake-on-LAN functionality to work, your iOS device must have an active WiFi connection. And for the Wake-on-Internet functionality to work, it must have an active internet connection.
The SleepOver app is available for purchase in the App Store for $2.99.
